Who cares about surviving on mushrooms? They have almost zero nutritional value. Wouldn’t a little 22LR be a lot easier than making a dead fall? Oh thats right you Brits outlawed guns. Not that squirrels have much nutritional value either. They have very low fat content and cant sustain you for long.

  • brandonquig says:

Whats a Brit know about survival….Red Squirrel? I know fox and cat squirrels.. Mushroom? Their afer hickory nuts high in protien…..Cool trap though.

  • CptUndrPants says:

the words “extreme survival” almost insinuate that you most likely wont be completely prepared for finding food.. hence the reason he isnt teaching you how to shoot things and the reason he mentions both trapping and gathering is because there isnt much nutrition in squirrel hence you might want to find things to suppliment your diet like nuts or other wild plant life and animals. deadfall works on other things besides squirrels you know

  • 68wagoneer says:

Yes they also work on chipmunks and small birds. Unless we are talking about bait, big deal. That thing needed a rock on it to even work on a squirrel anyway. But the heavier they are the more of a pain it is to get the trigger right.

Put your calories into something that gives you more than you put in. He could have built a variety of snares for the time/energy spent on that dead fall.

He had fishing tackle. Looks to me like he planned on looking for food. So he could have also brought a 22.

crunch there’s your meal …. lmfao

    hobo fishing…..

  • nipzilla says:

all that trap gonna do is pisses off the squirrel and gives it a headache.

  • funman2100 says:

    hobofising lomfao

  • TyrantsAREhere says:

He needs to put some weight on top of it, or spring load it with large rubber bands, maybe cut up some inner tube to make some.

  • mountaindweller44 says:

Uh…extreme survival? LOL…let’s see…he used a tin can (not in the deep boreal forest you don’t), a nice double-bladed axe…yeah, got one of those RIGHT HERE….and a very nice survival tanto knife to sharpen the point on that trigger…oh, yeah, and let’s not forget that fishing line and lure!!! LOL…survival my ass…don’t go in if you aren’t ready, and don’t challenge past your skill unless you’re ready for the $10,000 rescue bill!

  • mountaindweller44 says:

best squirrel trap is flat-rock with a figure-4 trigger and a pile of nuts. NEVER FISH for survival! Fish has almost no calories…and you will burn more calories making gear, fishing, cleaning and cooking than you will get in 99% of all cases…stick to fatty red meat, where possible…or fish in bulk…look at native american fish trapping in shallow waters…basically, a fish cage with a one-way door…then…you might be able to afford cleaning a dozen or so. Hobo was best idea shown.

  • mountaindweller44 says:

If you really want to go in and “play survival”, look for someone that does know (from experience) how to wilderness camp (primitive) and go with them…nothing beats doing it…where you get a pocket knife and MAYBE a bedroll…yeah, it will give you a whole new appreciation for those who came before!!!

  • cormany71 says:

not the best way… the squirrel trap shud have 2 large stones crushing it…or else it will just get away with a little bump on the head and it wont want mushrooms…2nd if u have that much fishing wire why not just finding a good branch with a sort of bump as a line support and try bait fishing with a short ammount of wire? thats how ive done it my whole life! or for 3 years anyway…its just cans dont grip well and if u lose it…u lose ur 10 feet of fishing wire so i wud suggest stick fishin

  • Jameshimself89 says:

    You the man Ray!!!

Got me wanting to go wildcamping now :D

  • Survivorguy74800 says:

He is the man? Well i,vgot nothing againts Ray and he really a good survivor but he don,t looks like a man……
